It’s back again this year, and it’s three full days, multiple training tracks, all online, featuring your favorite Photoshop World instructors and the Photoshop World experience, complete with an opening keynote, Midnight Madness, the attendee party, the Guru Awards — the whole nine yards as we aim to make it as close to the in-person event as possible, which means it’s going to be awesome!

Gonna be a full day, and a long night, and I’m gonna need that sleep.

I saw comments like those from my post last Friday about this new Lightroom Technology Preview, so I thought I’d address it here today. There are at least five advantages (maybe more), over the current limited proofing feature e and here they are:

(1) You can limit the total number of picks a client can choose, which is really helpful. I’ve submitted 120 images to a client and had them request 109 images edited and retouched. Lesson learned. Now I say “Pick your 10 or 12 favorite” and then I can use this feature to make sure they don’t go over my limit.

(2) You don’t have to go back to a small panel in Lightroom Classic to see their picks — they’re all collected right there for you, right where you shared them on Lightroom Web in the first place.

(3) You’re one click away from creating a collection of just their picks

(4) You can easily take that collection of their picks and resubmit them to have them narrow things down even more (and limit that number ot maybe 3 or just 1.

(5) You get a notification in your Lightroom CC mobile app letting you know if your client makes a selection or comment.

That’s just five of the low-hanging fruit; I’ll bet Adobe could give you a few more. I know watermarking was one some folks really would like to see added, and hopefully that will make the final version.

Happy Friday, everybody! Just a quick heads up; the fine folks at DxO have released an update for the Nik Collection — it’s the same Nik Collection as always (no new features), but now it actually works across all the new Adobe applications (including the most recent Photoshop CC and Lightroom Classic updates), as well as the most recent Mac OS.

This update is $49 (on their site, it looks like it will move up to $69 at some point).

Don’t be down on DxO for charging
Look, they did a great thing — they invested a ton of money in updating mountains of code, across a bunch of plug-ins, and brought a beloved plug-in back to working order for all the folks whose version of Google’s application no longer worked. They didn’t “owe” anybody anything (though I think Google kinda did), so I give big props to DxO, and there is nothing wrong with them charging for the update to recoup their investment (it would have been wrong for Google to do so, but not for a third-party like DxO who basically came to the rescue). DxO isn’t a charity — their employees need to feed their families, too so I applaud DxO for what they did, and totally understand why they are charging for the update. Hope you do, too.

In case you’re wondering, “Scott, does this mean you’re going to stop using Luminar?” (you were going to ask that, right?), the answer is no — I’ll absolutely keep using Luminar. It rocks! While it certainly was a great replacement for the Nik Collection when it died, Luminar has a LOT of features the Nik Collection doesn’t — plus they are constantly adding new features to Luminar and growing the plug-in’s capabilities very quickly, so it will remain an important tool in my bag of tricks (errrr, I mean my “plug-in arsonal”) right along with the Nik Collection.
